NJFX Internship Program | Summer 2026

Different Departments, One Mission: Powering Connectivity

Building the next generation of critical infrastructure leaders.

Security & Site Access Electrical Operations

Behind every connection, every network, and every piece of critical infrastructure is a team of dedicated individuals working to keep the digital world running. At NJFX, we recognize that maintaining this infrastructure requires more than advanced technology. It takes skilled professionals, collaboration, continuous learning, and a commitment to developing the next generation of industry leaders.

This past summer, NJFX welcomed three bright young men into our internship program, each gaining hands-on exposure to a different area of our operations. From security and site access to electrical infrastructure and daily facility operations, our interns experienced firsthand what it takes to support a mission-critical environment.

While their responsibilities differed, they shared one common mission: supporting the infrastructure that keeps the world connected.

A Summer of Milestones

Their timing could not have been better. This summer, a new subsea cable landed at NJFX and a new liquid-cooled data hall was being built in the heart of our facility, giving our interns a front-row view of the infrastructure shaping the next chapter of global connectivity.

Our interns joined NJFX during one of the most active periods in the facility's history. Rather than learning about critical infrastructure in theory, they saw it being built, connected, and brought online around them.

Watching a new subsea cable land and a liquid-cooled data hall take shape gave them a rare look at how security, power, and operations teams coordinate on projects that will support customers for decades.

One Connected Mission, Under One Roof

Operating a purpose-built, Tier III carrier-neutral Cable Landing Station requires multiple departments working together seamlessly. Every role contributes to the security, reliability, and operational excellence that customers depend on.

01 Security & Site Access

Jack | Protecting What Connects Us

Security is the first line of defense in any critical infrastructure facility. At NJFX, protecting the physical environment is essential to safeguarding the networks and systems that support global communications.

Through his experience with the Security and Site Access team, Jack gained exposure to the importance of controlled facility access, security procedures, situational awareness, and the responsibility that comes with protecting critical assets.

His experience reinforced an important industry principle:

Connectivity begins with security.
02 Electrical Team

Connor | Powering the Infrastructure Behind Connectivity

Reliable power is the foundation of a resilient data center and Cable Landing Station. Behind every network connection is an electrical infrastructure designed to support continuous operations.

Working alongside NJFX's electrical team, Connor was introduced to the systems, processes, and technical considerations involved in supporting a mission-critical power environment.

From understanding the importance of electrical reliability to observing how teams approach maintenance, safety, and infrastructure planning, Connor gained valuable insight into an area of the industry that is becoming increasingly important as demand for data, cloud services, and artificial intelligence continues to grow. With a new liquid-cooled data hall under construction, he saw firsthand how power planning supports the high-density environments AI requires.

The digital world may run on data, but it depends on power.
03 Operations

Ryan | Keeping the Facility Running

A critical infrastructure facility never truly stops operating. Behind the scenes, operations professionals are continuously monitoring, maintaining, and supporting the environment that customers rely on.

During his internship, Ryan gained exposure to the daily responsibilities involved in facility operations and the coordination required to maintain a reliable infrastructure environment.

His experience highlighted the importance of attention to detail, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability in a facility where operational excellence is essential.

Reliable connectivity doesn't happen by chance. It's supported by the people working behind the scenes every day.

The Value of Learning Goes Both Ways

An internship is often viewed as an opportunity for students to gain experience, but at NJFX, we believe the benefits extend far beyond the interns themselves.

When experienced professionals take the time to teach, explain, and share their knowledge, they are doing more than helping someone understand a task. They are passing along years of industry experience, lessons learned, and the practical knowledge that cannot always be found in a classroom or textbook.

Teaching also creates an opportunity for our own team members to grow. Mentorship encourages our professionals to reflect on their expertise, strengthen their communication skills, and approach familiar responsibilities through a fresh perspective. Questions from young professionals can spark new conversations, challenge assumptions, and remind us of the importance of the work we do every day.

It's an exchange of knowledge that strengthens everyone involved.

Beyond the Classroom: Experiencing Critical Infrastructure Firsthand

For many young professionals, telecommunications, data centers, and subsea cable infrastructure are industries they may not have previously considered as career paths. Yet these facilities form the backbone of our increasingly connected world.

Every video call, financial transaction, cloud application, and AI-powered service depends on an extensive ecosystem of physical infrastructure and the people responsible for operating it. At NJFX, our interns have the unique opportunity to step inside that ecosystem.

They can see how departments interact, understand why procedures matter, and observe the level of responsibility required to support infrastructure that operates around the clock. Perhaps most importantly, they begin to recognize the wide range of career opportunities available within the digital infrastructure industry.

That kind of exposure is invaluable. It transforms an industry that may have once seemed unfamiliar into something tangible, accessible, and full of possibility.

Workforce Development

Investing in the Next Generation Is Investing in Our Industry

As global connectivity continues to evolve, the demand for knowledgeable, adaptable, and technically skilled professionals will only increase. The expansion of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, subsea networks, and high-density data center environments is creating new opportunities while reinforcing the importance of developing a strong future workforce. New subsea cables and liquid-cooled data halls, like the ones our interns saw come together this summer, will need people who understand how they work.

At NJFX, workforce development is not simply about filling positions. It's about introducing young people to the industry, encouraging curiosity, building confidence, and creating opportunities for the next generation to discover where their interests and talents can take them.

Not every intern will follow the same career path, and that's part of the value of the experience. What matters is giving them the opportunity to explore, ask questions, learn from experienced professionals, and see what's possible.

Built for Today. Leading Tomorrow.

Different departments. One mission.

We are incredibly proud of Jack, Connor, and Ryan for the curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn they brought to NJFX this summer.

We are equally grateful to the members of our security, electrical, and operations teams who took the time to mentor, guide, and share their expertise. Their investment in these young professionals reflects the collaborative culture that drives NJFX and our belief that the future of critical infrastructure depends on the people we develop today.

At NJFX, we're not just building infrastructure for the future. We're helping develop the people who will lead it.
