NJFX and Telxius Ecosystems are Booming – Increasing Global Connectivity Options with First-Ever Dual Cable Landing Station Terrestrial Connection

Windstream connects Wall NJ to Virginia Beach Supporting over 500 Terabits per second of transmission Capacity

October 14, 2019

First ever CLS to CLS terrestrial connection

Wall, NJ and Madrid, Spain –  NJFX, the only Cable Landing Station (CLS) colocation campus in the U.S offering Tier 3, carrier-neutral data center capabilities, and Telxius, the communications infrastructure company of the Telefónica Group, announce significant development at their Cable Landing Station (CLS) campuses. As a driver of collaboration among carriers, subsea cable operators, enterprises and cloud providers within its CLS ecosystem, NJFX marks the spot of the first-ever CLS to CLS terrestrial interconnection, which connects NJFX CLS in Wall, NJ to Telxius facilities at the CLS in Virginia Beach, VA. The NJFX ecosystem boom is driven in part by its strategic location 64 feet above sea level and Category 5 hurricane resistant CLS campus with access to three subsea cables today, increasing to a total of four subsea cables in 4Q2019 that will exceed capacity of 500 Terabits per second of transmission capacity. The Telxius communications campus at Virginia Beach provides direct access to the top 2 capacity subsea cables in the world, MAREA and BRUSA.

“We are proud to be the catalyst of the first-ever CLS to CLS terrestrial route,” states Gil Santaliz, CEO for NJFX. “This is an integral part of the shift the industry is seeing in new infrastructure being deployed to replace the old networking models. The total capacity of the subsea cables coming out of these two cable landing stations is greater than all of the capacity of the previously placed North American subsea cables stretching across the Atlantic combined. Windstream and Telxius are bilaterally leveraging each company’s routes to address customer network diversity requirements and capacity needs. The potential for clients is endless.”

“Telxius as a world-class communications infrastructure company, is keen to enable the interconnection of two key cable landing stations in the US, offering the strategic ability of network protection at the subsea cable level,” states Gerardo Bonilla, Head of Sales for Telxius. “A pioneer as the first provider with connectivity between these two cable landing stations, Windstream can offer robust options to customers to use either cable landing station. Our companies are now able to provide our respective customers end to end global solutions leveraging Windstream’s robust US network and the Telxius subsea global network. Additionally, we are happy to be able to offer services over MAREA and BRUSA from NJFX facilities, creating tremendous value.”

“Our fiber deployment between two of the most important cable landing stations along the east coast aligns with Windstream’s core strategy to take our national network – global,” comments Joe Scattareggia, Executive Vice President, Windstream Wholesale. “Our fiber connectivity across the US from Canada to Mexico, combined with our build out at the NJFX CLS campus in New Jersey and at the Telxius CLS campus in Virginia Beach, offers customers the ability to leverage our national network and go beyond.”

Windstream’s state-of-the-art domestic network consists of approximately 150,000 fiber route miles and connects Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities across the nation. Secure and robust, the core network’s high-performance, point-to-point 1G to 100G optical transport ensures direct connectivity, transparency and control to support customer diversity requirements. In addition, Windstream also provides access to cloud resources at the edge, including from the most popular carrier hotels and data centers to unique locations not available with other carriers. Windstream provides high-speed connectivity directly into NJFX CLS and Telxius CLS campus, enabling access to multiple subsea cable systems. Customers can now also extend their reach through Telxius’s network into South America and Europe.

NJFX’s CLS campus offers access to four subsea cable systems to Europe and South America and seven independent US fiber based backhaul providers. Customers can access points of presence in 15 countries across Central and South America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

The Telxius CLS campus in Virginia Beach, includes the Telxius facilities at the MAREA and BRUSA CLS. MAREA’s 200 Tbps transmission capacity plus BRUSA’s 138 Tbps equal that of the top 10 hub cities in the world combined, ranked by international capacity.[1] They are uniquely suited to deliver massive capacity and the lowest possible latencies. In addition to offering direct access to those two subsea cable systems to Europe and South America, the Telxius CLS campus features connections with several independent US fiber based backhaul providers. Access to other advanced subsea cables will be completed soon. Additionally, the Telxius Communications Campus in Virginia Beach connects directly to main data center campuses in Ashburn, Richmond and Phoenix.

NJFX’S VP of Business Development Heads to Subsea EMEA in Marseille with Insight About the Nordic Gateway

Gil Santaliz

CEO

July 2, 2019

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJRoy Hilliard, VP of Business Development for NJFX, is bringing his expertise and thought leadership to Capacity’s Subsea EMEA conference in Marseille, France on July 8-10. The conference brings together 350+ commercial subsea experts for an industry touch-point to advance subsea cable investment in the EMEA region.

Mr. Hilliard will participate in the panel entitled “The Nordics – What is Fueling the Region’s Subsea Connectivity to Grow at a Rate of Knots?” He has unique insight to share, as NJFX was the conduit for bringing the Nordic Gateway to the U.S., the on-ramp solution into the Havfrue Cable System, stretching 7,200 kilometers from New Jersey to Ireland, Denmark and Norway. Bulk Infrastructure’s exclusive ownership of the Norwegian branch of the system unlocks one of the few genuinely sustainable solutions in the data center industry today. With this solution, the data center industry can utilize 100% pure emissions-free hydropower from the Nordic countries.

The project makes for perfect discussion on the panel, which will include topics such as:

  • New & diverse submarine fiber infrastructure projects in and around the Nordics
  • How the region is benefitting from new international subsea cables landing in the North Atlantic How changes in taxation & regulation are helping to aid the favorable investment environment in the region
  • How existing & new entrants in the data center space going to help optimize the new subsea networks in the North Atlantic

Mr. Hilliard has proven his thought leadership and expertise as a speaker for several high profile industry conferences this year, including ICPC in San Diego. There, he discussed the need for operational independence among firms in all verticals. “OTTs and content providers have cracked the code by switching the script and building custom infrastructure. This ownership affords the firms consistency, as well as independence. There are no reasons why other large enterprises that are dependent upon applications being available could not do the same,” comments Mr. Hilliard.

A key component of this growth will be a new model for cable landing stations. A cable landing station campus, with a fully integrated data center, can do what traditional carrier incumbents have been doing for decades, controlling their networks in a wholesale environment, with no backhaul required, low latency and better access to connectivity.

It is crucial to have clarity in global connectivity. In order to do that, there are now multiple terrestrial options to the CLS and then multiple subsea networks to route across oceans with diverse landings in the next continent. Clarity, operational independence and direct access to subsea capacity whether intercontinental or up and down the coast is the best option.

NJFX Announces New Inter-Continental WAN Capabilities at WAN Summit 2019

global WANs today extend through CLS locations such as NJFX and provide the same operational independence and certainty across network architectures.

April 8, 2019

Wall, NJ – April 8, 2019 – NJFX, the only Cable Landing Station (CLS) colocation campus in the U.S offering, Tier 3, carrier-neutral data center capabilities, announces new intercontinental wide area network (WAN) capabilities between North America, South America and Europe through its many partners including Bulk Infrastructure and Neutrona Networks. NJFX will showcase its WAN infrastructure capabilities during the Capacity Media and Telegeography WAN Summit, to be held April 8-9, 2019 in New York City.

Conceived 20 years ago to connect geographically distributed private networks with local area networks, global WANs today extend through CLS locations such as NJFX and provide the same operational independence and certainty across network architectures. NJFX’s CLS campus offers access to five subsea cable systems, including Havfrue, part of a consortium including Bulk Infrastructure, which connects the US at the NJFX CLS to Northern Europe. In addition, through strategic partners such as Neutrona Networks, a leading technology solutions provider, NJFX customers can access points of presence in 15 countries in Central and South America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

“NJFX started the revolution in the subsea industry with our carrier-neutral Tier 3 by the Subsea model,” comments Roy Hilliard, VP of Business Development for NJFX. “We can be sure the next wave of technological advancement will be just as compelling with the onset of the Enterprise Revolution, which takes the WAN model and extends it into other continents through our unique CLS campus. All of these dynamics will spur the evolution forward and enable further operational independence for enterprises and financial firms.”

“The industry is changing rapidly with cloud and content providers creating new models of network architecture to achieve economies of scale, reliability and greater network resiliency,” comments Peder Nærbø, CEO for Bulk Infrastructure. “This is evident in our recent deal with Amazon Web Services to allow it to use our portion of the Havfrue subsea cable. As such, we value our work with NJFX as it has established itself as an innovative on/off ramp to global networks.”

“By being a part of the NJFX ecosystem, we are able to extend the WAN to Latin America, as well as the Caribbean,” comments Luciano Salata, President and Co-Founder of Neutrona Networks. “This is especially important for financial firms as well as enterprises who are looking for managed connectivity to public clouds and can easily leverage our SDN-ready network. We are proud to be a part of the innovative spirit NJFX has created by enabling real solutions and innovative approaches with its partners.”

In addition, Roy Hilliard, VP of Business Development for NJFX will present at the WAN Summit on April 9th a use case presentation with banking industry leader Jim Cataudella entitled, “Operational Independence – Rethinking Network Architecture and Ownership.” The case study takes a closer look at the challenges faced by enterprises and financials today on the U.S. east coast and the innovative solutions that are critical for the industry to consider in achieving operational independence.

Aqua Comms Continues Investment in Subsea Cables and Announces North Atlantic Bridge

Aqua Comms Continues Investment in Subsea Cables and Announces North Atlantic Bridge

January 15, 2018

DUBLIN – Aqua Comms DAC (“Aqua Comms”), the operator of Ireland’s first dedicated subsea fibre-optic network interconnecting New York, Dublin and London, announces today its plans for continued investment in submarine cable infrastructure having joined the HAVFRUE consortium which will own and operate a new subsea cable system connecting New Jersey, U.S.A., to Ireland, and Denmark, with connectivity options to Norway.

The HAVFRUE subsea cable is the first new undersea cable traversing the North Atlantic to connect mainland Northern Europe to the U.S. in nearly two decades. Aqua Comms is the appointed system operator and landing party in the U.S., Ireland, and Denmark. TE SubCom has been selected as supplier for the system on which route survey operations have begun. The projected Ready-for-Service (RFS) date for the HAVFRUE subsea cable is Q4 2019.

Aqua Comms will market and sell capacity services and raw spectrum on its portion of the HAVFRUE cable system under the brand name America Europe Connect-2 (AEC-2) as complementary to its existing transatlantic cable, America Europe Connect-1 (AEC-1), running between New York and Killala in County Mayo, Ireland. Aqua Comms is also concluding a new cable route to Denmark through the UK, developing CeltixConnect-2, which connects Dublin to Manchester, as well as the North Sea Connect cable that will link Stellium’s data centre in Newcastle, England, to Esbjerg, Denmark.

Combining these new subsea cable developments, the build of the HAVFRUE / AEC-2 cable system, together with existing systems owned and operated by Aqua Comms, will create a resilient, ring-based infrastructure between the East Coast of the U.S., Ireland, and Northern Europe, connecting the hubs of the pan-Atlantic hyperscale data centre industry in North America, Ireland, and Scandinavia.

“Invest in Denmark is proud to welcome Aqua Comms and the other consortium companies into the country with this fantastic addition to our internet infrastructure,” comments Steen Hommel, Director, Invest in Denmark. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs couldn’t be happier about this investment. Landing a brand new, top-of-the-line fibre cable on the west coast of Jutland will further cement Denmark’s connectivity to North America.”

The HAVFRUE / AEC-2 infrastructure network services will be delivered to and from modern, high-reliability, carrier-neutral interconnection points at NJFX, in Wall, New Jersey, and 1025Connect in Long Island, New York, with a resilient network connection in between, offering a Manhattan bypass route increasing diversity and resiliency in the region. In Europe, the services will be offered from all landing stations and carrier-neutral, metro area Points of Presence (PoPs) in Dublin, London, Amsterdam, and Esbjerg, where the system will more than double fibre connectivity to Denmark, increasing the diversity and reliability of the Internet to the region.

“Aqua Comms is delighted to be investing as a part of the consortium for the HAVFRUE cable system connecting the U.S., Ireland, and Denmark,” states Nigel Bayliff, Chief Executive Officer, Aqua Comms. “The demand for hyperscale capacity and connectivity linking North America with Northern Europe cannot be overestimated, and the combination of AEC-1 / AEC-2 subsea cable systems, facilitated by the construction of HAVFRUE will deliver reliability and resilience at an auspicious time, especially in view of the meteoric rise of the digital economy taking place in Scandinavia.”

The Aqua Comms team is attending PTC’18, taking place January 21-24, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Metro Connect, January 29-31, in Miami, Florida, and Submarine Networks Europe, February 20-21, in London. Aqua Comms invites companies to meet with its representatives at these events so that it can assist organizations with their long-term connectivity needs across the Atlantic Ocean.

October 24, 2017

WALL, NJ –  NJFX, the first and only colocation campus to sit at a cable landing station in the U.S and offer Tier 3, carrier neutral data center capabilities, announces a new, direct way for carriers to reach the United States via the TGN-A and Seabras-1 cable systems. NJFX customers can reach these strategic subsea cables via secure Network to Network Interfaces (NNI) at NJFX’s New Jersey colocation campus. The NNIs contribute to guarantee increased performance, reliability and route diversity.

The breakout capabilities also allow carriers, service providers, content companies and enterprises high capacity, while eliminating traditional points of failure when providing US-Europe, US-Brazil, US-Asia connectivity. TGN-1 & 2 cables are submarine cable systems connecting Highbridge UK to Wall, New Jersey. U.S. Seabras-1 is a 10,500-km fiber optic cable that connects Sao Paulo, Brazil to the U.S. It offers connectivity to financial markets and other Latin America enterprises and bypasses the Atlantic hurricane zone.

“Our new breakout capability allows carriers to use these subsea systems to reach the U.S. and bypass traditional routes that have multiple hops,” states Gil Santaliz, NJFX Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “This is crucial not only to reduce latency, but also in terms of increasing reliability and disaster recovery options. You only have to look to recent hurricanes to see that for communications hubs, one disruption in the chain could mean disruption in financial transactions, communications and connectivity to South America.”

“Customers at NJFX with the most stringent latency and diversification requirements, and who need higher reliability, can now enjoy direct advanced connectivity solutions to Brazil and beyond through Sparkle’s Seabras-1 capabilities,” says Federico Porri, CTO at Sparkle Americas. “As we are constantly working to provide more value and secure diversity options for our customers, we are happy to partner with NJFX, a company that provides a very reliable and flexible environment with great backhaul partners.”

NJFX offers backhaul options to strategic locations across the United States through carriers including Comcast, Cross River Fiber, Epsilon, Lightower Fiber Networks, Sparkle, Telia Carrier, Windstream, and Zayo – all with no recurring interconnection fee, for direct connectivity to over 50,000 buildings.

WALL, NJ –  NJFX, the first and only colocation campus to sit at a cable landing station and offer Tier 3, carrier neutral data center capabilities, announces the addition of Aqua Comms DAC (“Aqua Comms”), the operator of Ireland’s first dedicated subsea fibre-optic network interconnecting New York, Dublin and London, and Epsilon Telecommunications, a privately owned global communications service provider, to its ever-growing connectivity ecosystem. With the introduction of Aqua Comms, NJFX customers can strategically diversify their connectivity options to key European hubs, bypassing legacy chokepoints within the U.S.

Aqua Comms has deployed a Point of Presence (PoP) within NJFX’s colocation campus, allowing NJFX customers to directly access the carrier’s suite of services without incurring cross connect fees. Epsilon and Aqua Comms have partnered to deploy Infiny by Epsilon – an on-demand connectivity platform – within the NJFX facility, and Aqua Comms will use the Cloud Link eXchange (CloudLX) module of Infiny to rapidly interconnect new services in and out of the NJFX campus. Now, Aqua Comms’ customers can benefit from interconnecting with NJFX’s growing ecosystem of global carriers, network operators, enterprises, cloud providers, and internet exchanges.

“We are excited to welcome Aqua Comms as a strategic addition to our community,” says Gil Santaliz, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of NJFX.  “What makes NJFX unique is its carrier neutral subsea capabilities, so customers have options when choosing which cables move their data from our campus to key landing points in Europe.  Having Aqua Comms at our colocation campus enables customers to further diversify and plan their international connections with certainty and accuracy, eliminating any transport uncertainty.”

“The CloudLX module of Infiny accelerates access to global cloud service providers and creates unique value for NJFX’s network operator tenants,” comments Carl Roberts, Chief Commercial Officer of Epsilon.  “We have combined a track record of success and innovation with an on-demand connectivity platform that simplifies how users connect and grow their businesses. Additionally, Epsilon will offer its customers access to an increasing number of new connectivity options to leverage and scale their operations more effectively.”

“Establishing a PoP in the NJFX colocation campus grants our customers access to a diverse and growing ecosystem of carriers and service providers,” adds Nigel Bayliff, Chief Executive Officer of Aqua Comms. “With Ciena’s WaveLogic Encryption offering, all data Aqua Comms carries remains secure and safeguarded from PoP to PoP. Plus, NJFX’s strategic location enables us to bypass congested legacy New York City hubs, eliminate multiple points of failure and save our customers from facing hefty cross connect fees.”

The NJFX team is attending International Telecoms Week (ITW) from May 14 – 17, 2017 in Chicago.
